Narcissism and psychopathy get plenty of attention in popular culture, but the DSM categories of Narcissistic Personality Disorder and Antisocial Personality Disorder offer a thin clinical picture on their own. This workshop looks past the diagnostic checklist to the underlying dynamics clinicians actually encounter in the room — both in narcissistic and psychopathic patients themselves, and in the people who live and work alongside them.

Nancy McWilliams, PhD, LP, is Emerita Visiting Professor at Rutgers University's Graduate School of Applied & Professional Psychology and practices in Lambertville, NJ. Her books — including Psychoanalytic Diagnosis, Psychoanalytic Case Formulation, Psychotherapy: Psychoanalytic, and Psychoanalytic Supervision (all Guilford Press) — have been translated into more than 20 languages, and she has taught in over 30 countries. She also serves as Associate Editor for the Psychodynamic Diagnostic Manual across all three of its editions. Dr. McWilliams trained at the National Psychological Association for Psychoanalysis (NPAP).
