The traits that helped you become successful are often the same drivers that lead to fatigue and burnout. Burnout often only shows itself in your inner world. Outwardly, you continue to perform and deliver, and put on a game face, while inwardly, you might experience emotional numbness, decision fatigue, anger, and a quiet loss of purpose.

I bring a unique perspective to burnout therapy because I've worked in and consulted in many capacities for businesses including UBS/Credit Suisse, Simon & Schuster, The College Board, Chase, The Federal Reserve Bank of New York, and CIBC World Markets. I've taught management and leadership in MBA programs and understand human motivation and group dynamics at a deep level. I understand the pressures of the corporate world. I use my real-world experience with depth-oriented psychotherapy to address both your physical symptoms and their psychological roots.

What Clients Say:

"I feel like I've gotten my life back again."

"You have been a wonderful and patient therapist during each of our sessions. Thank you."

"I wouldn't be where I am today without your help. You've definitely set me on a great path."

Symptoms of Burnout

Burnout often manifests itself in your body through before it is consciously acknowledged. These are somatic indicators that your system is failing to self-regulate:

Burnout vs. Clinical Depression: A Distinction

They are related but not the same. Burnout is primarily situational and role-specific; it is an "energy crisis" rooted in your professional environment and identity and involving the relationship between stress and your central nervous system. Depression is often more pervasive, manifesting itself in hopelessness and apathy and affecting self-worth and mood across all domains of life.

However, in NYC executives, "Existential Exhaustion" often bridges the two—where the loss of meaning in work begins to bleed into a loss of vitality in life. My depth-oriented psychotherapy helps clarify these patterns to ensure we are treating the root cause rather than just your symptoms of exhaustion. For example, typical therapy might involve mindfulness techniques, but what if your drive comes from a pervasive (and possibly unconscious) need to be successful or admired? This is where depth psychotherapy and a psychoanalytic approach comes in.

Professional Stress and Burnout Therapy FAQ

How does executive psychotherapy differ from leadership coaching?

While coaching focuses on skills and performance output, psychotherapy addresses the underlying psychological structures, neurobiology, and attachment patterns that cause performance to break down. We work on the "engine" rather than just the "speedometer."

How many sessions does it take to start feeling better?

While every case is unique, many clients begin to notice a "lightening" of the load and improved feelings of wellbeing within 8 to 12 sessions. Depth-oriented psychotherapy often continues beyond that to ensure the psychological roots of the stress and burnout are resolved permanently.

Is professional burnout therapy confidential?

Absolutely. Confidentiality is the cornerstone of my Manhattan practice. I provide a secure, private environment where you can speak freely without the risk of professional scrutiny.

Can I do burnout therapy remotely?

Yes. Many of my clients utilize Zoom sessions to accommodate their travel schedules.

What is the "Existential Dimension" of burnout?

Often, burnout is a signal that there is a gap between your daily efforts and your deeper values. Feeling that your work is meaningful cannot be underestimated. Feelings of emptiness are common in corporate leaders. Psychotherapy helps turn a crisis of exhaustion into an opportunity for professional and personal realignment, even if you feel locked in to your current lifestyle and schedule.

How do you address "Alone at the Top" syndrome?

Leadership often requires a level of compartmentalization that leads to feelings of isolation. In therapy, we build a non-judgmental alliance where you can talk about your vulnerabilities and doubts that cannot be shared with your colleagues or staff.
